PrefaceThis Study Guide has been carefully designed to help you learn, understand, and apply the concepts presented in Fundamentals of Management, Sixth Edition, by Donnelly, Gibson and Ivancevich. The Study Guide has two main purposes: to improve your test performance (an immediate goal) and to enhance your overall understanding of the managerial processes, requirements and challenges facing managers today. Each chapter in the Study Guide corresponds to a chapter in the text and is comprised of seven sections:Chapter Previewpresents an overview of the topics and issues discussed and what to focus on when studying the chapter.Key Terms To Knowlists the chapter's important concepts.Chapter Outlinepresents detailed coverage of the chapter's content and key points. All of the chapter's major points are included in the outline.Chapter Study Questionsincludes true-false, multiple choice, matching, short answer and essay questions developed to comprehensively cover all text material. Answering the essay questions involves applying your own individual thinking, judgement, and creativity to the text material.Wall Street Journal Article and Questionrelates to a specific topic in the corresponding chapter. The accompanying question asks you to apply what you've learned in the chapter to the situation or issue presented by the article. These questions have no "one best" answer but are developed to spur your own thinking and judgement about the topic.Exercisesrange from case studies and projects to experiential and self-assessment activities. These exercises provide an additional perspective of the course material.Key to Questionsincludes all answers to the chapter study questions. The answer to each true-false, multiple choice, and matching question has a corresponding text page number where the correct answer can be found. As a special and unique feature, the Resource Guide for Information on U.S. Corporations and Industries is included at the end of the Study Guide as an information resource to use in preparing term papers and projects and as an aid in completing some of the guide's exercises. You will find very helpful sources and suggestions on how to obtain company and industry information.Study PlanThe following step-by-step study plan shows you how to effectively use the Fundamentals of Management text and Study Guide in your preparation for course exams:1.Read the Chapter Preview. The Chapter Preview will give you a general idea of the chapter's approach to the specific topics covered.2.Read the chapter in the text twice. Read the material as you would a magazine article, familiarizing yourself with the major concepts and topics. On your second reading, concentrate on thoroughly understanding the material. Use the Study Guide's Chapter Outline for notes, and as you read, add any extra notations to the Chapter Outline which you feel are necessary.iii
