his handbook is based upon an originál version ü created for The Office of Prevention, California State Department of Mentái Health. That version was published in 1990 as the California Helper's Handbook for Suicide Intervention. We wish to thank Dávid Neilsen and other members of the "California team" for their help in getting this all started. The first edition, published in 1994, was a major modification of the originál publication. Minorchangeswere made between the first and second editions. The tenth edition has undergone extensive change in formát and content. Well over 200,000 copies of all previous versions are in circulation.
