Bővebb ismertető
The field of transportation has emerged as a recognized profession only in the last ten years, although transportation issues have been important throughout history. Today, more and more government agencies, universities, researchers, consultants, and priváté industry groups are becoming truly multimodal in their orientations, and specialists of many different disciplines and professions are working on multidisciplinary approaches to complex transportation issues. The central role of transportation in our world today and its recent Professional status have led The MIT Press and the MIT Center for Transportation Studies to establish The MIT Press Series in Transportation Studies. The series will present works representing the broad spectrum of transportation concerns. Somé volumes will report significant new research, while others will give analyses of specific policy, planning, or management issues. Still others will show the interaction between research and policy. Contributions will be drawn from the worldwide transportation community. This book, the first in the series, focuses on a pressing policy issue of concern in many countries-the automobilé in the úrban environment-and draws upon several bodies of research. Thus, it exemplifies one of the styles of work that will be presented in this series. Marvin L. Manheim
