an exciting promise
"LET'S have our fortunes told, Freddie !" said blonde, curly-haired Flossie Bobbsey.
"That will be fun," her brother agreed. "The fortune-teller is Tara, the gypsy girl in Nan's class."
(The big blue eyes of the six-year-old twins blinked with delight as they gazed about the fair being held in their school gymnasium.
The room was filled with children and grownups milling about from booth to booth. Above the babble of voices came a lively tune over a loudspeaker. The air was full of excitement and the wonderful aroma of buttered popcorn, chocolate cake, and cinnamon candy.
"Do you think we should go to the fortuneteller's alone?" Flossie hunched her shoulders and giggled.
"It does look dark and spooky in Tara's tent," Freddie said. "Let's ask Nan to take us."
