M
ly introduction to the incomparable Koko, the luscious Yum Yum, and the Qwintessential reporter came in 1992 when, while I was recovering from surgery, a friend gave me The Cat Who Wasn't There. I was hooked by the cats' sharp, dainty claws! I couldn't wait until the next book!
Then I discovered there were earlier books. I didn't rest until I had collected them all. Although each book is a complete Story in itself, I found myself reading them in sequence and enjoying the way the recurring characters developed over the years.
Lilian Jackson Braun spins a yarn about a world-famous newspaper reporter, and the threads run from a large Midwestern cit^ to Junktown to Moose County to Breakfast Island to the Potato Mountains and back. And early in the tale, James Mackintosh Qwilleran becomes entangled first with Kao K'o-Kung, then with Yum Yum—two intelligent, beautiful, and witty Siamese cats. The independent bachelor becomes the "willing slave" of his two feline partners, and the trio sets about unraveling mysteries and crimes.
