The Lonely Dragon
by Sheena Ronsey
rpirralee the dragon lived in a J. cave among the rocks high up the mountain side. There was nobody else living nearby, because Tirralee's fiery breath made things too hot for them. He was a very lonely dragon. Every day he went out looking for a friend to play with, and every evening he sat by himself in his cave, and cried because nobody wanted to play with him.
One day Tirralee flew a long way, and he found a big town. He was so excited to see all those people. Surely he would find a friend here. Tirralee crept along a quiet street and poked his head through an open window.
'Nice doggy," said a baby inside, patting the dragon's nose. Tirralee smiled a wide smile. He liked having his nose patted.
The baby's mother was trying to light the fire. Tirralee wanted to help. He stretched his long neck and blew his fiery breath onto the pile of sticks and paper. They caught alight. The woman was about to say "Thank you," when Tirralee blew again, a little harder, just to make sure. He set the chimney on fire.
"Oh, you stupid dragon!" cried the woman. "Why couldn't you be more careful?"
