SCHEME' The Complete English' series is designed for children aged from II to 15, in order to meet their requirements in every branch of English. The general scheme of the series, the methods used in the teaching and practice of English, and the many novel features introduced, are in exact accordance with the theories advanced in the latest Handbook of Suggestions published by the Board of Education, and the recent Suggestions on English in Senior Schools issued by the London County Council.Each book of the series contains from 22 to 26 sets of work, in which the subjects taught are Literature past and present, with its interrelation and history, which is shown by examples from the works of ancient and modern writers ; Language Study, consisting of grammar, punctuation, figures of rhetoric, history of language, and the technique of prose and verse composition ; Word Study which is concerned with the meaning, use and choice of words ; Writing ; Speech Training where lists of suitable books for reading, subjects for stimulating discussion, suggestions for acting and recitation, and literature and grammar games are given ; Written Composition in prose and verse which advances in difficulty as progress is made in Language and Word Study ; and Illustration, comprising suggestions for suitable drawings illustrating the lessons.The lessons are systematically graded, contain revision questions, and are specially arranged so that they can be used with equal success for class and individual study andvii
