PUBLISHER'S NOTE
The purpose of this dictionary is to simphfy as much as possible and not to burden the reader with rules and exceptions of grammar, syntax, different word meanings and pronunciation. However, a remark about the transliteration is necessary: Generally the continental pronunciation of Roman spelling was used in order to convey the sounds of words belonging to languages with non-Latin Alphabets. Only for Russian the sound of the letter X which is gutteral, like ch in the name of the composer Bach, kh was adopted as commonly used. Stress always the accented letter in Russian and the apostrophized syllable in Greek.
