PREFACE
The Consultant's Big Book of Organization Development Tools has been compiled with the goal of providing incredible value for the consultant who wants to use structured interventions as a vital part of his or her consultation approach.
For over 30 years, I have been a consultant who seeks to help others improve their current effectiveness and to facilitate change. I can't tell you how many times I wished that I could have at my fingertips a variety of organizational development tools, designed by expert consultants, that I could freely use to meet the needs of my clients. To expect such resources would have been unthinkable at a time when they were limited to proprietary use or would cost the user a small fortime.
Times have changed. Many consultants view other consultants as their partners, not their competitors. Fortunately, I know a lot of them. And I have invited a talented and willing group of consultants to offer their tools to guide your efforts and, if you wish, to give to your clients.
The Consultant's Big Book of Organization Development Tools is a collection of 50 intervention activities you can use to help solve individual, team, and organizational performance problems. These intervention activities are organized in five areas: Leadership Development; Employee Development; Team Development; Organizational Development; and Strategic Planning and Change Management.
The section on Leadership Development focuses on developing the attitudes and skills needed by those in key management positions within an organization. With these tools, you can help them do a better job as coaches, motivators, and facilitators of performance improvement.
The section on Employee Development concentrates on ways to improve how the people who carry out the day-to-day functions of the organization are trained and supported back on the job. With these tools, you can cultivate new insights into how your
