PREFACEAn important stage in the Eastern Enlargement of the EU was completed in 2004. This fact motivated the organizers to focus the 16th ENCoDe conference on the cross-cultural aspects of cooperation and communication between the nations of Europe and on the improvement of cross-cultural skills. Certain special issues concerning communication in business, in organizations and in society, which can have considerable influence on the effectiveness of communication, were also discussed. The fifty conference participants from eight different countries discussed cultural, sociocultural, political, linguistic and didactic aspects of the coexistence of different cultures. The texts in this document give a faithful overview of the varied activities in the two sessions of the conference.I would like to thank the contributors for their presentations, and also Csilla Marosi, PhD student at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Business and Economics, without whose technical help these proceedings would not have such a homogeneous and pleasing format.July 2005 - PécsÁ.
