It PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION fThis dictionary is intended for medical students, trained nurses, paramedical workers, medical auxiliaries and the interested layman. It is designed to provide a ready-to-hand and simple guide to medical terminology. To this end, the number of entries has been reduced, the text brought up to date and measurements converted to the metric system although somé of the imperial alternatives are still included. The appendices have been extensively revised and that on diet has been considerably enlarged and the principles underlying Bound diet in health and disease have been brought into line with jcurrent thinking. The appendix on groups of drugs has been rewrititen and enlarged and the list of drugs has been omitted because it is I impossible to keep this section up to date or make it applicable to Kall the countries where this dictionary is in use. The appendix on Ifirst aid has been rewritten to conform with the present thinking of medical authorities on this rapidly evolving subject.
