Author's Note:How It BeganThe Everleigh Club existed, and so did the two young madams who ran it, two sisters named Minna and Aida Everleigh, born and raised in Kentucky before they set up shop in Chicago.I knew Minna and Aida Everleigh very well.I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps Photographic Center in Los Angeles during World War II, and in my spare time I read what I could about the Everleigh sisters and got the idea of writing a play about them and their Club, a musical comedy. I learned that, having been driven out of Chicago, they had moved to New York with a million dollars (in a time when you could buy lunch for under five cents) and were living on Central Park posing as clubwomen and Manhattan socialites.
