Foreword At the start of a New Year we are glad to be able to wish our readers the health, strength and ability to meet all that comes their way. We alsó wish you God's blessing in all your circumstances. It is by no means a matter of course that we experience the crossing of the threshold of a new year. We should be grateful that we have been enabled to do so and express our thanks to almighty God for His goodness to us. So much can happen in the course of a year. We may start it in health and happiness and end it in weakness and sadness. The epistle of James in the NewTestament states: "You do no know what will happen tomorrow" (ch. 4, v. 14). How many face a new year with confidence, yet fail to see its end, because death overtakes them unexpectedly? For these reasons we commend the reading of the daily meditations on Bible texts in this new edition of the "Good Seed", through which we endeavour to show the relevance of the Word of God to our various needs. Insecurity is a characteristic of life today. In such times it is a consolation to know that we have a God whose constancy never fails and who lovingly watches over His creatures. Yet, in our modern, hectic world, so few are aware of His care for them. Life today offers so much distraction through work and pleasure that the needs of our soul and spirit are neglected. We trust that all our readers will regularly take the time to read the leaf for the day with its text and message, ponder over its content and pray to God to show them its application to themselves personally. It is our wish that, as a result, you will "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3, v.18).
