-The Test Bv C'BEKNARD-KurtE^-^ WHITELADIES is a very famous school, situated in the midst of beautiful scenery on one of the wildest stretches of coast in the United Kingdom. A mile away there is a small fishing town, but otherwise Whiteladies' position is isolated, and visiting teams, who come to play on the great playing-fields, arrive in motor charabancs, and are lavishly entertained; wherefore fixtures with Whiteladies are much sought after. Like all girls' schools Whiteladies has its corps of Guides, but, because of its position on the coast, it also has a special corps of Sea Guides. These last are a very crack corps. To be a member of the Sea Guides is equivalent to being a Colour in one of the school teams, and the position carries with it equal privileges. To become a Sea Guide, indeed, is far more difficult than to play for the First at cricket, hockey or lacrosse.^ To begin with, no girl is accepted under fourteen years of age. Then she has to be able to row, and sail, and handle a boat like an expert. She must be a first-rate diver and swimmer, with and without clothes. The tests to which an aspirant to the Sea Guides has to submit include diving into the sea fully dressed, and swimming a certain distance in a certain time. She must be an expert life-saver.
