FOREWORD
A renewal of concern and interest in the study of the Bible as the Word of God is one of the remarkable and encouraging hallmarks of our times. With the unparalleled advances of modern technology and the accompanying cultural and sociological refinements and tensions, mankind has been reawakened to the eternal relevance of spiritual truth.
The New Encyclopedic Reference Bible makes available to the thoughtful reader and student of Scripture a spacious compilation of usable aids for personal devotional reading and study. For example, the 300 page Cyclopedic Index contains more than 8,000 entries, providing an exhaustive reference library of pertinent facts.
The King James Version is used with American spelling. To clarify the text, symbols " and are used. The symbol " stands for "reference", and indicates that the center column refers to other passages which have similar meaning or further bearing on the word or phrase immediately following the symbol. The symbol
before a word, and sometimes after a word, stands for "translation" and indicates that the center column contains a special meaning of that word. These added meanings have come from the ASV and other translations, to bring more light and understanding to the text.
In the section on Biblical Statistics a wealth of perhaps little known but interesting information is provided. Included are Interesting and Strange Facts About The Bible; an alphabetical arrangement of the Teachings of Christ; an Outline History of the Twelve Apostles; and a chronological listing of the Prophecies of the Messiah Fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
An introductory section prefaces each book, making readily available helpful information on the Name, Purpose, Date and Outline of the book.
The King James text is set in double column with an exclusive center reference system containing more than 100,000 references. Select subject headings throughout the text facilitate in an easy identification of the contents.
Additional helps provided by twenty-four contemporary scholars and theologians include How To Study the Bible; The English Bible and its Development; Laws of the Bible; and Greatest Archaeological Discoveries, presenting a thoughtful analysis of the outstanding archaeological discoveries including the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The Concordance has been prepared specially for this Bible and contains more than 15,000 entries directly related to the major theological terms and subjects.
