The views expressed in The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 in Retrospect do not represent any consensus of beUefs among the editors and contributors. It can be expected that some contributors will not sympathize with all the sentiments expressed here; some may flatly disagree with a few opinions. The editors therefore accept responsibility only for allowing the expressed views to appear in this volume.
The contributions of Anna Kethly, Tibor Meray and Péter Kende were translated from the Hungarian by Béla K. Király and edited by Peter J. Beales, MA (Cantab.), former managing editor of the monthly East Europe (New York). Mr. Beales also edited the text of the rest of the book.
