I CAN THINK OF NO ONE who has donc more to spread the story of Fatima, or to promote devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, than Father John De Marchi. He has justly earned an international reputation as an authority on the Apparitions of 1917, and it was in clear recognition of this that Father C. C. Martindale, the renowned British Jesuit, wrote in the introduction of his own Message of Fatima, in 1950: "I would hope that this short book . . . may be regarded as a modest appendix to the authoritative work of Father De Marchi."
This volume then, especially prepared for an English-speaking audience, presents Father De Marchi's major work in its full, unabridged form. We in Boston have welcomed it warmly by running it serially, in advance of publication, in our Arch-diocesan newspaper. The Pilot. We attach great merit to the book.
As for myself, it was my privilege to visit Fatima in 1950, while enroute to Rome with a Holy Year Pilgrimage from New England. And I shall never forget the atmosphere of devotion which enshrouds this holy place. The intense spirituality of the people is so unmistakable here that Fatima must linger long in the recollection of any pilgrim fortunate enough to have made the journey. Happily I recall my own meeting with two very
