FOREWORD TO THE 52nd EDITIONThis is the 52nd edition of the international who's who. Since the appearance of the first edition in 1935 the book has grown to encompass almost every field of human activity, and now contains over 18,000 biographies. Until the 1960s few personal details were given, but during that decade the entries were expanded to include details of place of birth, parentage, marriage, children and leisure interests. This has resulted in a more interesting and lively book, which answers the needs of readers seeking information on the lives of our most famous and influential contemporaries.Very few countries have their own Who's Whos, and few national Who's Whos appear annually, the international who's who contains in one volume biographical information from almost every country, most of it unavailable in any other annual reference book.
