EDITOR'S PREFACE
The Journal of Andrew Bihaly came to my attention through Martha Winston, my hterary agent. It had been brought to her by an acquaintance of Andrew's mother, who quickly recognized its profound merit.
Having once been traumatically down and out myself, I was immediately struck with Andrew's journal and agreed to edit his book, not in the strict sense of the word but more in the spirit of a creative brother, since, through the usual process of repetition and experimentation, Andrew had been denied the time to season himself. Therefore, my job was not one of rewriting his book but rather of being his seasoned literary conscience.
