The Man Who Sold Death
Hsiang jacked one of the powerful Mauser
cartridges into the pistol and threw himself prone—
sighting down the gun's barrel at the dog sled
bursting out of a flurry of snow. , ^
He fired and fired again. And again. Still the dogs
and the sled raced onward. In the next instant he
saw the mound on the sled* rise up as a flying
figure launched itself from its hiding place beneath
the blankets.
A thin blade glinted in the moonlight.
Hsiang swung the pistol up as the body hit him—
a powerful hand seized his wrist and crushed bone.
The stiletto flashed downward.
In the final moment of his life, Hsiang heard only
the small sound of his blood sizzling against the
snow. And Nick Carter stood alone in the
Arctic night.
