Bővebb ismertető
PREFACEThis book is intended to provide a means of recognizing all the different species of fish likely to be found in the seas around us or in the shallows and rock pools of our coasts, attached to the hook at the end of a fishing line, or at the fishmonger's.Those who are fortunate enough to be able to accompany an inshore trawlerman in the course of his labours should also find this book of use in identifying the 'rubbish* which is thrown overboard. In this material there are often many species of fishes of little or no use to the fisherman but which are of great interest to the man in the street. Some fishes are dealt with more fully than others, even though they may not be of any great economic importance or of general occurrence. This is because their life stories may be of particular interest or because they have been the object of detailed study. Only the very rare species have been omitted. If the text interests and if, with the plates, it helps in the identification of such marine fishes as come the reader's way then the author will feel that he has achieved his purpose.
