By The River Weser, not far from the city of Hanover, is the town of Hamelin.Long ago, in medieval times, the town had thick walls with towers and turrets around it.The people of Hamelin felt safe and secure and they prospered from their grain trading.Along the banks of the Weser there were granaries and flour mills then.The children of Hamelin were well looked-after. The people were content.And so were the rats. For there were rats too, of course.
