Author's Note
The title of the book (as of its first section) is taken from David Lewis's On the Plurality of Worlds (Oxford: Blackwell, 1986).
The fourth of the "Circles in Meditation," "Flowers, Flower," was composed by plagiarizing and rearranging chapter 31 of the Essay des merveilles de nature et des plus nobles artifices of R. P. Etienne Binet (1632).
In the third, some passages in quotes (not all, but it is easy to tell which) are borrowed (others transposed without acknowledgement) from Giorgio Agamben {La comunith che viene, Einaudi, 1990). They are twisted from their original sense (a double twist, since all quotation—and some of his fragments are themselves quotes—is a twist), which admission I hope will make him (at least half) forgive me.
