IntroductionDivination, in one form or another, has been practised from the earhest times on record and is still prevalent today in every country of the world. The method used may vary considerably according to numerous factors, such as the materials available, the temperament of the diviner, the object of the exercise, the traditions of the culture in which it is being practised and so on. Yet the ultimate aim of any form of divination is always the same: discovery of the future or otherwise unknown events by supernatural means.Divination can, of course, be carried out at various levels, too. To some people it may appear to be little more than a game, a bit of harmless fun that might, just might, provide an indication of something that has yet to happen. At the other end of the scale, divination may be regarded as a way of communing with supernatural forces, forging links with arcane knowledge outside man's normal comprehension but which, with practice, can become accessible if not explainable in scientific terms.Man is a curious animal and the techniques he has devised to help him gain insight into the unknown have assumed a great variety of forms over the centuries. Yet, whatever technique is employed, no matter what approach the diviner takes to the whole subject, divination is a method of gaining access to the supernormal; it is, by definition, a means of acquiring insight. Each of us has psychic abilities even if we are not consciously aware of the fact: we are all, to a lesser or greater degree, sensitive to non-physical forces. We are all capable, therefore, of developing such abilities and one way of doing so is through divination.
