Foreword The Prescriber's Guide to Hormoné Replacement Therapy draws together many of the world's foremost experts to provide practising clinicians with clear and specific guidance about the prescription of hormoné replacement therapy. Whilst the generál principles of hormoné replacement therapy are now increasingly well known, there are many practical considerations which a physician needs to take into account when prescribing therapy for individual patients. In particular, the physician needs to consider each patient's own medical history and to be aware of the impact that hormoné replacement therapy can have on pre-existing diseases or conditions. This book provides specific guidance on prescribing for patients with a wide rangé of preexisting diseases. In each instance, expertadvice is provided with reference to the latest published research. There is alsó an overview of other key issues affecting the choice of therapy. I would like to express my appreciation to all the many distinguished contributors who have written chapters for this volume. They have, in my view, together provided the clearest guidance currently available to physicians on many practical aspects relating to the prescription of hormoné replacement therapy and patient management. In addition, I would like to thank Schering AG for sponsoring the publication of this volume. It makes a genuine contribution to medical education in an area of particular clinical importance - and Schering's contribution is, therefore, of real significance and value.
