Growing-up — learning how to walk, to run, to swim — can be a lot of fun. In the world of the young, what hurdles are there that cannot be cleared?
In the case of the handicapped child, the clearance of somé hurdles is rather more difficult, yet not beyond determin-ation and ingenuity. But a handicap, be it physical, mentái or psychological, creates somé problems that are beyond the power of the child to solve: the embarrassment, lack of awareness, lack of understanding, the fear even, of other children and, more importantly perhaps, of adults. In addition, in the world of children's literature there are few handi-
