The Story and the PeopleThe saga of Gisli was written in Iceland in the early part of the thirteenth century. It is an imaginative reconstruction based on the career of a man and his family who came from Norway to Iceland about a.d. 950 and made their home in Haukadal on the Dyrafjord in the far north-west of the country. The opening chapters tell of the family in Norway and events that led to their voyage to Iceland.
