FOREWORD TO THE FOURTH EDITION
In 1949 the Association published the first post-war edition of The Teaching of Modern Languages, one of a series of books concerned with the main subjects in the Secondary School curriculum. The book was so successful that new editions were necessary in 1952 and 1956.
Since 1962 a new Committee has completely rewritten the work to take account of the most recent developments in Secondary education. It is the hope of the Executive Committee that this book will achieve a very wide circulation and have as great an influence as the earlier editions on the theory and practice of the teaching of modern languages.
In the preparation of this work the Association has had the good fortune to be able to draw upon the devotion, knowledge and experience of many members and friends, to all of whom it expresses grateful thanks.
