About This BookVolume 2, along with Volume 1 of The Unicode Standard: Worldwide Character Encoding, Version 1.0, is the authoritative source of information on the Unicode character encoding standard (henceforth referred to simply as "the Unicode standard"). Volume 2 is not a stand-alone volume and should be used only in conjunction with Volume 1.Volume 2 of The Unicode Standard contains principally the East Asian ideographic (Han) character set that was omitted from Volume 1 pending unification decisions made by the Chinese/Japanese/ Korean Joint Research Group (CJK-JRG) on December 1,1991. Volume 2 provides a discussion of changes that were made to the original Unicode standard as a result of merger efforts by the Unicode Consortium and the International Organization for Standardization Subcommittee 2 (ISO/SC2). Resolutions constituting the merger of the Unicode standard with the ISO Draft International Standard 10646 (DIS 10646) were approved in October, 1991. Volume 2 also provides corrections to Volume 1 in those cases where information was inadvertently omitted or misprinted.Changes to the Unicode standard that resulted from the merger and are included in this volume are discussed in Chapter 1.Chapter 2 describes the rationale and method used by the CJK-JRG to create a unified Han character set based on existing East Asian national and industrial standards.Chapter 3 contains the code charts and cross-references for the Han character set.The Appendixes provide clarifications to material presented in Volume 1, as well as the errata to Volume 1.Appendix A contains a clarification of Arabic, Devanagari, and Tamil character shaping behavior. Appendix B contains a list of two-part characters included in version 1.0 of the Unicode Standard. Appendix C contains the revised Microsoft Windows and PC code page mapping tables. Appendix D contains corrections to Volume 1. These corrections include:Corrections to the bidirectional algorithmClarification of Asian standards mappingMiscellaneous errata limited to those cases where an error in content could cause difficulty to implementors of the Unicode standard.Appendbc E contains a table of contents to Volume 1.Unicode Version 1.0 AboutThisBookxi
