Bővebb ismertető
Much attention has been given to postmenopausal oestrogen deficiency, its early consequences in terms of climacteric vasomotor symptoms, and the subsequent risk of developing osteoporosis. Similarly, clinicians and scientists have shown considerable interest in those conditions related to atrophic changes of the lower urogenital mucosal lining, such as micturition troubles, and more recently sexual problems in the elderly female population which are linked with oestrogen deficiency. However, few conferences have attempted to focus on the role of oestrogens in these disorders, which was the main purpose of this Workshop. The Workshop was held in Bagsvaerd, Denmark, on November 7th, 1986. The papers presented are published in this book, together with edited versions of the discussions which followed each presentation. The first four presentations after the generál introduction, cover the state of the art concerning diagnosis and methods for the evaluation of the lower urinary tract and the vagina, a review of indications for oestrogen therapy, and vaginal oestrogen administration. The last four papers deal with clinical experiences with a new oestradiol preparation for local vaginal administration which has been developed by Novo. To a large extent the success of this Workshop is due to the expertise and enthusiasm of the participants, who took part in all the discussion periods and shared their experiences and opinions. We believe that the many valuable questions and comments that arose will stimulate the reader's interest in these topics. We sincerely extend our thanks to all the participants for making the Workshop what is was. Thanks are alsó extended to Mariann Strid Christensen andjosé Picazo from Clinical Research, Pharmaceuticals R&D, Novo, who were deeply involved in planning and organizing the meeting, to Marianne Bergkrantz, who most ably took care of all the practical details, to Mari Carmen Hernández and Maria Picazo for their editorial assistance, and to the publishers, for their excellent cooperation during the production of this book.
