THEATERSCHRIFT In der Nähe eines Geheimnisses Close to a secret i. Es war nicht so einfach, einen Titel für diese dritte internationale Nummer der Theaterschrift zu finden. Bei der Suche wurde schon bald deutlich, woran das lag: Als Gegenstand dieses dritten Hefts hatten wir eigentlich kein Thema gewählt, das sich klar umrissen mit einigen Worten beschreiben läßt, sondern vielmehr einen Bereich voller Themen/ Gegensätze/ Fragen, einen Bereich, der um den Kern des kreativen Prozesses herum angesiedelt ist, um den Akt, eine Bühne zu besteigen und sich einem Publikum zu präsentieren. Und selbst das Wort 'Kern' muß sogleich wieder relativiert werden. Der französische Philosoph Emmanuel Levinas beschrieb die Funktionsweise der Identität, des Kerns eines menschlichen Wesens, als eine Bewegung: ein ständiges aus sich selbst Heraustreten und wieder zu sich selbst Gelangen; Antonin Artaud I. It was not an easy task to think of a title for this third international issue of Theaterschrift. In the course of the quest it soon became clear why this was: as the subject of this third book we had not, in fact, chosen a theme, which could be clearly defined in a few words, but rather an area full of themes, contrasts and questions, an area round and about the core of the creative process, round and about the act of going on stage and showing oneself to an audience. Even that word 'core' must immediately be put into perspective. The French philosopher Emmanuel Levinas described the functioning of the identity, the core of a human being, as a motion: continually stepping outside itself and then returning; Antonin Artaud wanted to see life as "that fragile, fluctuating core which is beyond the reach of form"; and Anthony
