OUR SKYSCRAPERS Stand a sharp symbol of the upthrust of a new world. They touch us with an unconscious exhilaration. They inspire and raise men to heights. They shine back the lights of sunrise and the gold flare of evening. By day they are precipices and canyons, by night they vie with the starry firmament. Through the grace of light and shadow nature takes them to herself, until they appear not as man's work but God's. This volcanic upheaval is but human thinking solidified. Each pile is a thought form. Yet magnificent as they are this is but the beginning of things to come. These are the shoots that burst the soil in the spring. They are a sign of vast energies to be unloosed when the whole tree is grown. They are a command to Americans to think.
