When my dad comes in from work the house fills with laughter.Thomas Telford Age !1Dads are funnier than mums, we ihink. Especially after reading wiiai children have to say about them. The love is as strong that shows even in the funniest entries. But dads are such lun to he with and love being laughed at and laughed with.We had nearly .""^OOO entries for this book, and the companion volume TO MUM, sent in by schoolchildren from all over the world. Tlie entries were abcjut dads c]uietly going into the lields two hours before breakfast. They were about other dads dashing off to a computer world. They were about working dads and thinking dads. Bui most of all they were about kind, playful dads who, no matter how worried or busy, always had time lora lesson in liie or just a tickle. These mu( h praised dads came Irom Biitain, the United .Slates, India, Australia, New Zealand, Tiinidad, Jamaica, Deinnark, Kirc, France, Cieiniany, Holland, Italy,Sj)ain. .Switzerland, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Tinkey, Saudi Arabia, South Alrica and Nigeria. We are deeply grateful to the dozens of schools that heljx'd in the comijilation ol the book, and to all the children who made the job so enjoyable. We've left the spelling just as it came to us, except where the meaning went scjuilf. We haven't even been too fussy about which entries finally made it, because sometimes ten children said almost the same thing about their dads. We hope thai all those children whose entiies were not c hosen, will feel that someone else has said what they wanted to say.So to you, a universal clad, comes this thank you' from children e\erywhere. And il the book comes to you as a gift fiom your own child, we're sure he or she would have liked to have said some of these things if they haven't been said already!Richard ix Helen Exley
