Seeing the Sights The What To See section of the TourBook is intended to serve as a travel guide to selected places to visit rather than as a commercial, geographic or promotional encyclopedia. Only communities that offer something of particular or unusual travel interest-something for you to do or see that differentiates the town from many others in the area or Nation-are included. Each state begins with a generál writeup that paints a broad picture of the historical, geographical, economic and other factors that contribute to the state's individual character. Such factual data as the nickname, highest and lowest elevations, legal holidays and alcoholic beverage laws are highlighted in the Things To Know box. The recreation section outlines the kinds of sports and recreational activities that may be enjoyed in the state. More specifically the recreation chart indicates the facilities available in the most developed of 'the state parks and other areas; unusual or special features of a park are alsó mentioned The state orientation map is primarily an index. Areas on the recreation chart are keyed to it by means of numbers. It alsó shows the location of the towns that are listed as places of interest; the coordinates (for example, A-3) followinq the place names under the What To See heading refer to this map. An index to starred attractions appears in conjunction with the orientation map. The Attraction Listings For the most part, any attraction with a separate listing beginning in italics has been approved by a AAA field representative or a designated AAA representative Its quality is reflected in its generál description. To assist you in selecting places to visit, we have placed a star (*) before certain listings. These are the attractions that are of particular or exceptional interest and quality. As a further aid, an asterisk next to a town name on the orientation map indicates the presence of an attraction that merits this distinction; on other TourBook maps the asterisk is placed next to the names of the starred attractions.
