Meet Vera B. Williams Many of the things that happened in A Chairfor My Mother happened in Vera Williams's family. Her mother bought a big stuffed armchair, and it was the only new piece of fúrniture in the house. Vera Williams remembers saving pennies and nickels to help pay for the chair. Most of all, she remembers that the chair was something that made her mother feel proud.
