Foreword
The publication of this new book on the subject of twins and higher multiple births is very welcome, as parents and professionals always need up-to-date information. When TAMBA (or as it was known then - TCA -Twins Clubs Association) was formed in 1978, very few books existed on the care and upbringing of children who were bom as twins, triplets, or more. Those that had been published were sadly outdated and generally from overseas. They included practices which were not understood by parents in the UK and terms which were certainly unfamiliar to many.
In the years since TAMBA's formation that situation has changed and many excellent books have been written and published from the UK perspective. However, it has been several years since a new, practical book has come on to the market. The 'world' of multiple births has changed, like so many other areas. TAMBA is aware of the immense practical, financial and emotional needs of multiple-birth families. The medical world has influenced the development of new and exciting techniques, many of which have directly impacted upon the area of multiple births. Medical and technological advancement has ensured that far more babies bom as a result of a multiple conception can survive. In addition, more parents who were previously unable to conceive are now facing a more positive outcome in their endeavotirs to become parents - although, sadly not all - and many of these are having tvdns, triplets or more!
