I. Introduction
The operational features of pumps with semi-open impeller, i. e. without
front-shroud, are considerably influenced by the size of the clearance be-
tween blades of impeller and casing. In spite of this fact the literature scarcely
deals with this question and does not give sufficient information.
In research work on pumps at the Department of Hydraulic Machines
of the Technical University, Budapest, the question concerning the radial-flow
pumps has been investigated. In case of constant characterizing dimensions,
i. e. constant impeller diameter D2, impeller breadth b and ratio D2/D1 the
the effects of the said clearance were investigated, while the number of blades,
the blade camber line and the blade thickness has been varied. So, our objective
was to study the interrelations between each of the latter parameters and the
clearance size.
