USMLE Step 1 Recall: Buzzwordsforthe Boards evolved out of my study notes for the Step 1 exam. As I studied a particular topic, I took the "high yield" facts and arranged them into questions that I placed on the left side of the page, with the corresponding correct answers on the right. The questions were written in such a manner that the answers could be short, which allowed me to review large volumes of information in a relatively short period of time. I often studied with friends, and soon they began to ask me for copies of my study notes or "buzzwords" (named so because they were composed of high-yield facts). In exchange for my notes, my only request to my friends was that they proofread the questions and answers. After using the "buzzwords," my friends began insisting that it should be published. As more people told me to publish the material, I began to consider reworking it for publication. After taking the Step 1 exam, I realized how well my "notes" had helped me answer the questions. At that point I continued to work on the manual, refining, adding, deleting, and correcting questions for the next 18 months. During my core rotations, I began to realize that my study questions had alsó been a good preparation for the questions I was encountering on the wards. It soon became apparent that the question-and-answer nature of my originál study guide enabled it to fit well into the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Recall series of books. As with die other tides in the Recall series, USMLE Step 1 Recall: Buzzwords for the Boards presents the questions on the left side of each page and the corresponding answers on the right. A bookmark is provided for covering the answers on each page while you attempt to answer die questions. This approach to review will help you develop "recall" of key basic science facts, which should decrease die amount of time you will need to answer the questions on the Step 1 exam. USMLE Step 1 Recall: Buzzwordsforthe Boards presents the main body of the basic sciences review material in Chapters 3 through 9. The questions within each chapter are presented "at random"-that is, for the most part they are not grouped together by subtopics widiin the main chapter topic. This allows you to prepare for die random presentation of questions found in the USMLE Step 1 exam. Aside from the question-and-answer chapters described above, Üiere are several other chapters that will help you study for die Step 1 exam. Chapter 1 describes the exam, explains the organization of this review book, and provides studying tips. Chapter 2 lists common medical and basic science abbreviations; you may want to "flag" it for quick reference. Mnemonic icons-(p)-appear throughout to alert you to useful memory tools. Finally, Chapter 10 provides a
