Th Great Day Arrives
When I woke up that morning, with the autumn sun streaming across my bed, I had the old familiar feeling that something wonderful had happened to me. For several days now rd had that feeling, and, as I lay there, it suddenly burst upon me what it was that had happened. I'd had my audition, and had been acccpted for that most romantic of all schools —the Sadler's Wells Ballet School!
Then the wonderful top-of-the-world feeling changed to a fluttering in my inside—the sort of feeling you get when you jump into the swimming-bath for the first time in the season or go on the scenic railway. It was a feeling partly of excitement, partly joy, but most of all apprehension, because to-day was the day! Yes, this very morning, in less than two hours' time, I'd be walking up to the porticoed building that said 45 Colet Gardens on a brass plate by the side of the door, and from that moment I'd be a member of the most famous dancing school in the world. No wonder I felt excited!
I jumped out of bed and ran over to a chair whereon stood a small attaché-case, opened it, and peeped inside. Yes, everything was there—the new, grey silk tunic (oh, the awful job I'd had to get it made in time!), pink tights, belt, and matching hair-band, blocked and unblocked shoes.
