Editor's Page The régiónál editors, the publisher and I are proud to present you with the first issue of VÍRUS GENES, a journal devoted to the publication of originál studies on the structure, organization and function of the genes of all viruses. We are sure that you will find VÍRUS GENES a dynamic journal with high quality and fast review procedures that will match the rapid and significant developments in the studies of virus genes. Modern communication (via BITNET etc.) between me, the régiónál editors, the international editorial board, and the publisher holds promise that your manuscript will be handled efficiently and will be published without unnecessary delay. Your support by sending us manuscripts and subscribing (personally and institutionally) to the journal will help to further these aims. Undoubtedly, a number of journals already publish important studies on viruses and their genes. We would like to present a journal, which, with your help, will provide a vehicle for concentrating solely on virus genes and their functions in infected cells. In addition to publishing manuscripts we would like to share with you our dream that VIRUS GENES will develop into a means of communication between scientists. In this issue a new section VIEWPOINT is included. The aim of this section is to allow you to present your views on a matter of scientific interest in the form of a short manuscript, My viewpoint in this issue deals with an important issue and your response or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You are invited to send me your viewpoint as well. I wish to thank the régiónál editors, Prof. Ed Wagner (USA), Prof. Yorio Hinuma (Far East), Prof. G. Darai (Europe), and the associate editor Dr. J. Hadar (Jerusalem) for their efforts in having the first issue of VIRUS GENES published so soon after its announcement. I alsó thank all the members of the Editorial Board and the members of the Editorial Advisory Board for their advice and support. We are all in debt to Mr. Jeffrey Smith, our publisher, who so enthusiastically provided us with the possibility to realize our hopes and plans for this new journal.
