Vuoden Luonnonkuvat 91 [antikvár]

Tassa kirjassa ovat jalleen kerran vuoden parhaat luontokuvat. Paras, Vuoden luontokuva 1991, on viereisella sivulla: Lauxaniidae-karpanen Tapani Rasasen ikuistamana. Vuoden luontokuva valitaan vuosittain Suomen Luonnonvalokuvaajat ry;n jarjesta-massa kilpailussa, johon voivat lahettaa kuviaan yhdistyksen jasenet. Hyvia ja kiinnosta-via luontokuvia otetaan epaiiematta myos taman jarjestSn ulkopuolella, mutta jokseen-kin kaikki maamme eturivin harrastajat ja iuonnonkuvauksen ammattilaiset ovat mukana yhdistyksen toiminnassa ja myos osallistuvat tahan kilpailuun, YhdistyksessS on jasenia tata nykya viitisen sataa, ja uudet jasenet hyvaksytSan tyonaytteen perusteelia. Talla kerralla kilpailussa oli kaksi sarjaa: yksittaiskuvat ja kuvakokonaisuudet. Osallis-tujia oli 187, joista vain neija naisia. Yksittaiskuvia lahetettiin arvioitaviksi 537 kpl ja kuvakokonaisuuksia 72 kpl. Eniten tuntuu kuvaajilla olleen panostusta yksittaiskuvien puolelle, koska Vuoden luontokuva valitaan niista. Parhaista kuvista - paaosin yksittaiskuvia - kootaan lisSksi nayttely, joka kiertiS vuoden mittaan maata, Nama nayttelykuvat ovat tassa kirjassa otsakkeen "Galleria" takana. The best, the actual Nature Photograph of the Year 1991, is on the folloviiing page: a Lauxaniidae fly captured for posterity by Tapani Rasanen. The Nature Photograph of the Year is chosen annually in a competition arranged by the Finnish Nature Photographers Association for their members. No doubt good and interesting pictures are taken outside the association's membership but nearly all Finland's leading enthusiasts and professionals are involved in the association and also participate in this competition. At present there are some five hundred members, with new applicants being accepted on the basis of their work. This time there were two categories in the competition: individual pictures and series. There were 187 participants, only 4 of whom were women. In all, they sent in 537 individual pictures and 72 picture series to be judged. The main reason for the predominance of individual pictures seems to be that the actual Nature Photograph of the Year is selected from them. In addition, the best entries - again mainly individual shots - are assembled as an exhibition which travels round Finland during the year. They are shown here under the title "Gailery". The pictures are judged by a panel which this year included the experienced nature photographers Pauli Nieminen, tapio Pakarinen and Per-Gustav W/ikström. Along with the main prize, they also gave commendations: Tauno Kohonen carried off second prize with his landscape of the Rukatunturi fell in Kuusamo, while Heikki Tabell took third place with a butterfly shot. Only one picture series - Mikko PöllSnen's "Scaring Beaver" - reached the award stage and the exhibition. Along with each succesful picture, the arguments for and against its selection according to the panel are presented. For the first time in the competition's history, an "Environmental Picture of the Year" was chosen. The selection was made by the "Valokuva" (Photography) magazine and the Finnish Nature Photography Archive and turned to Tauno Kohonen's second-placed landscape. In addition to the pictures selected by the jury for the exhibition, there is a selection on the theme of motion. They have been chosen from non-prizewinning entries, and the participants did not know beforehand what the theme would be and could not therefore take it into account. The selection was made by the undersigned. Following the usual tradition, the work of the "Nature Photographer of the Year" - this time Tapani RSsánen - is presented on a slightly wider scale. Furthermore, there is a section at the back of the book on a "worthy" photographer, On this occasion it is the turn of the giant of Finnish nature photography, Hannu Hautala - the "bearded one" - who is 50 this year.
