Preface
More and more people today are becoming interested in those wonderful inner movie shows that we call dreams. Often a person wiU wake up with strange and bewildering images and landscapes still fresh in his or her mind. Many such images will remain firmly lodged there for days, months and even for years, so vivid are their colours, stories and emotional content. Yet how much attention do we pay to them?
This book takes a look at the part that dreams play in our physical, emotional and psychological growth. Dreams are essentially practical and instructive, and this book will explore ways of understanding and interpreting their messages, for in attending to our dreams we wiU be taking a step towards greater health and awareness.
The first part of the book deals with the physiological aspect of sleep patterns, the way in which dreams have been used and interpreted throughout history, and the use of dreams in some twentieth-century primitive societies. The second part gives some ideas about recording, interpreting and using your dreams as an aid to self-awareness. The techniques in this book can be used by one person alone, in conjunction with a friend, or with a group. Case histories of clients from my own practice have been included, although the names of individuals have been changed to protect their identity.
I would like to thank all those who have allowed me to share their inner journeys with them and whose dreams have provided me with such inspiration.
