PREFACE This book has been prepared as an aid to operators of water-purification plants in the performance of their routine duties. Both theory and practice are discussed from a purely elementary point of view for the benefit of operators who have not had the advantage of a technical education. The actual steps involved in plánt operation and maintenance are described as briefly and simply as possible. The emphasis is upon hygienic quality. The majority of water-purification plants can furnish a satisfactory product, provided that they are operated carefully and intelligently. It is hoped that this book will prove helpful to those engaged in this task. George D. Norcom, Kenneth W. Brown. New York City, San Jose, California, January, 1942.
