Rocky coostline gives way to o beach of fine white sand fringed with rainforests at Hoyman Island on ihe edge of ihe Great Barrier Reef. British explorer Captain James Cook sailed this coastline in 1770 navigating the 50-odd islands that make up ihe Whitsunday group. This chain of islands lies off the coast of Queensland. Fringed by the Pacific Ocean, it offers the visitor magnificent coral reefs, sailing, snorkelling, bird life, bushwolking and unspoiled wilderness. Deep sheltered inlets such as those creofed by the notural curves of islands like Haymon make this a soilor's and swimmer's paradise.
