¦ Dedication ¦ This book is dedicated to all those medical professionals who provide health care for pregnant women. We especially want to cite the unceasing efforts of the many people who care for underprivileged women and their infants at Parkland Hospitál and at community women's clinics throughout Dallas. The hard work of nurses, nurse practitioners, and certified nurse midwives is acknowledged and appreciated. Similarly, we cite the expert care provided by resident physicians, fellows, and faculty of the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Anesthesiology. Importantly, we acknowledge the help of countless unsung heroes who help make such a massive clinical service reach out and touch with dignity the lives of the thousands of mothers and their infants; thus, we thank the ward clerks, orderlies, housekeeping attendants, and others for their dedication and hard work. Without administrative support, both from Parkland and UT Southwestern, such a large clinical service would never operate optimally; we are grateful for help and guidance provided by Parkland's chief executive officer, chief financial officer, and vice president for Women and Children's Services, as well as our president, vice-president for clinical affairs, and dean. Finally, we must include in this dedication the many, many pregnant women who have for almost 40 years entrusted their maternity care to what those aforementioned often affectionately refer to as "Parkland Obstetrics."
