About this book
Word Games With English is a series of 3 books of carefully graded language activities designed to stinnulate learners to practise, activate and extend their English vocabulary.
Pedagogical Basis
Book I, for beginners and post-beginners, is closely based on the vocabulary designated by the Council of Europe for Waystage level. This represents the first stage of a two-stage learning process resulting in a basic general foreign language ability (Threshold level, covered by Book 2 in this series).
A nunnber of words have also been added fronn grades I and 2 of the Cannbridge English Lexicon (R. Hindnnarsh), based on 4 nnajor frequency counts.
There are 700 lexical items in this book, allowing the learner to 'survive' in an English-speaking context and providing a solid basis for further study.
Presentation
The vocabulary concentrates on the most essential topic areas: personal and family/house and home/free time and entertainment/ travel/health/places/shopping etc,
Each page is highly visual with the words contextualised and their meanings made clear by the illustrations.
Each game makes demands on the learner's intelligence and imagination and calls for active participation.
There is built-in revision and recycling of certain lexical items in different contexts.
The book is suitable for teaching and testing, for class and group work and for varied further exploitation.
There is a full answer key and word list enabling the book to be used also for self-study and revision.
