Bővebb ismertető
Though a somewhat lesser-known, Anisfeld is an important artist. Anisfeld was a Russian-born painter and theater designer, who worked with Mikhail Diaghilev in Russia before leaving for Paris to study art in the very first years of the twentieth century. He returned to Russia but then fled to New York in late 1917, around the time of the revolution. Anisfeld was well-received in the United States. In 1918, the Brooklyn Museum began a touring exhibition of his paintings and a bit later, he was working on set designs for the Metropolitan Opera. In the twenties his paintings were in less demand and Anisfeld accepted a teaching position at the Chicago Art Institute, where he taught until his retirement in 1958. This is the catalog for the Fall 2007 Exhibition of his work. Many earlier works were includedin this show, with paintings dating back to 1905. The material is impressive and calls to mind the Expressionist Movement and the work of Odilon Redon, Amedeo Modigliani, Emil Nolde, Marc Chagall, Edvard Munch, and Wassily Kandinsky (in his Blue Rider period). All works in the show are featured with notes and background information and all reproductions are quality and in full color.
