4CHAPTER ONE6:28 a.m.Gina Granville sat bolt upright in bed with perspiration beading on her brow. The cold of the bedroom instantly caused gooseflesh to appear on her arms and shoulders, but she was scarcely aware of it. Still trapped in the netherworld of her nightmare, she was fighting desperately to escape to the reality of her bedroom, to the reassurance of Tim sleeping beside her.She must have groaned or cried out, because Tim, awakened, extended a warm hand from be-neath the quilts and gently coaxed her back down against the pillows."A bad dream," he murmured. "Go back to sleep." He drew the edge of the quilts beneath her chin; then his hand, sliding down over her breasts, came to rest on the swollen mound of her abdomen as if to feel for movement of the child inside.
