A NOTE TO THE INSTRUCTOR The lessons in Writing Practical English 3, Second Edition, are closely coordinated with the lessons in the accompanying text, Practical English 3, Second Edition. They provide additional writing practice using the same grammatical items. Exercises from this workbook should be assigned only after the corresponding material in the text has been covered in class. A few vocabulary items are used here before they appear in the text, but the meanings of these words are always made clear by the accompanying illustrations. It is generally a good idea to go over the workbook exercises orally in class before assigning them as homework. This applies particularly to the picture compositions. Instructors should have students discuss a given picture in class before asking them to write a composition about it. Instructors should alsó explain any unfamiliar vocabulary that the students will need to know in writing their compositions. The picture stories in this workbook will often remind students of their own life experiences, when something unusual, exciting, sad, or wonderful happened to them. In such cases, instructors may want to use the picture stories as springboards for class conversation and then have students write their own personal stories.
