PREFACE
This book tries to/reflect the development of the XXII International Physics Olympiad, and compiles important information for participants and other individuals interested in this event.
From the 37 countries invited to this XXII IPhO, held in Havana from July 1st to 9th, 1991, 32 attended the contest. Sixty one professors headed the delegations of the participating countries and made up the International Board, plus 2 guests and 23 observers. One hundred and fifty five students participated in the contest.
The XXII IPhO was characterized by a high scientific level of its participants, the useful scientific and pedagogical exchanges among professors, the environment of cordiality and affection, the establishment or strengthening of sincere bonds of friendship among its participants and also by the excellent relationships created among competitors.
It is worth to highlight the dedication of all members of the International Board of the XXII IPhO, the Technical Board and the Organizing Committee to this event. Much of the success of this Olympiad is due to the outstanding work done by Dr. Carlos Rodriguez Castellanos, Dean of the Havana University Physics School and President of the Cuban Physics Society, as chairman of the International Board and in the scientific organization of the contest, and of Francisco Fereira Báez, President of the Organizing Committee.
The Technical Board in charge of the scientific organization of the Olympiad was made up of a test team, responsible for drawing up the problems, of a marking team, and a support staff. All members of this Board were renowned physicists or professors of Physics who desinterestedly devoted their time and effort to guarantee the success of the Olympiad.
Finally, we want to congratulate the principal protagonists of this Olympiad, the competitor students, for their exemplary behavior and dedication to science.
